Who are NB Real Estate

Introduction

At NB Real Estate, we pride ourselves on allowing people to excel, whatever their status. If you prove yourself, you will be given responsibility early on, and have direct client contact. Once qualified, promotion is based purely on your achievements and successes, not on "time served" or allocated slots being available.

We have been recruiting and training graduates for over 10 years in specific jobs within the company, and our APC pass rate for the past three years has been 100%. Every year we have places for high calibre graduates on our formal graduate training scheme. This takes the form of two placements through the management, agency and/or professional services disciplines. Salary will vary according to previous (if any) experience and the benefits package consists of 25 days holiday (rising with service), life assurance, long term sickness insurance and season ticket loan. We will also provide a one-off business dress contribution of £1,000 if you join us.

Selection Process

If you would like to apply for a graduate position please fill out the online application form.

If your initial application is successful the graduate recruitment process consists of two stages:

Stage 1 - Assessment Centre

  • Half hour interview with one of our Directors
  • Analytical questionnaire
  • A 5-minute presentation on a topic which will be given to you on the day
  • IT test

Stage 2 - London HQ

  • Presentation from our Managing Director
  • Tour of our Head Office from our current graduates
  • Psychometric tests
  • Informal lunch

Induction

On joining NB Real Estate you will receive a full induction into the company as a whole but will also receive more information on the graduate process up to APC.

As a firm that constantly looks to the future, NB Real Estate is committed to supporting your efforts in attaining corporate membership of the RICS. We recognise that well trained, motivated and widely experienced individuals will be vital to the NB Real Estate of tomorrow.

You will be allocated a Supervisor and Counsellor on joining us and it is their responsibility to offer advice and guidance in order for you to pass your APC.

Your Supervisor will be responsible for the management of your day to day activities and for ensuring that your work is satisfactorily carried out in a proper and professional manner.

Your Counsellor has overall responsibility for your training and experience and you will meet formally to discuss progress on a 6 monthly basis. You will need the approval of both your Supervisor and Counsellor before you are eligible to sit your final assessment.

Rotation Scheme

If you are recruited onto the Graduate programme, the company will use all best endeavours to provide you with the training you need to achieve your APC. This will be based on two placements within a 24 month period.

If you are recruited as a graduate but not formally onto the graduate programme, then you will be based within one Service Team, however, in order for you to achieve the experience you require for the APC, we will endeavour to move you into different disciplines, as appropriate.

RICS fees

The company will pay for the following:

  • Registration fee
  • The first attempt at final assessment
  • Exceptionally, the second attempt at final assessment

Any subsequent attempts at final assessment will be payable in full by you.

Training

The onus is on the graduate to ensure that they fulfil the criteria set down by the RICS of 48 continual Professional Development (CPD) hours per annum. NB Real Estate however, also offers internal lectures and forums to assist you in your training.

Graduate Forum

These are co-ordinated by Human Resources, and are held monthly. Directors, or other experts in their field, will speak on current topics, including both factual and day to day information. This will also include seminars on the RICS Code of Practice and APC competencies and assessments, etc.

Study Groups

All graduates are advised to set up their own study groups of around 4 people as early as possible in their APC training. The study groups are run by yourselves but assistance may be sought from your APC Counsellor. We highly recommend that you set up your own study groups and believe that this is in your best interests to pool information you have gained.

TEN Videos

These are co-ordinated by Human Resources and held on a regular basis.

CPD Lectures

These are held at University College London, Gower Street, during term time. A schedule of forthcoming lectures is held on the intranet and passports for the current academic year can be obtained from Human Resources.

External Courses

You will be permitted to attend an APC Summer School at the Company's expense. They are normally held at Kingston University every year and at other similar institutions.

Mock Interviews

Your APC Counsellor will hold mock interviews in preparation for your APC. This will introduce you to the atmosphere of the interview process and build confidence. These will also be ideal opportunities for you to develop your presentation skills in preparation for the final APC interview.

What we are looking for

The number we look to recruit varies from year to year, however competition for places is always high.

The majority of our graduates will have achieved a recognised land management degree, either as a result of taking a direct cognate degree or alternatively a graduate with a non-cognate degree who has taken a post-graduate Masters in a RICS-accredited property related subject.

The initial stage of selection is reviewed from CVs. We assess each individual on their own merits, however below is a guideline of the aspects we consider:

  • A-Level subjects achieved and the UCAS points gained
  • Work experience in a property related field
  • General interests - such as team sports and other extra curricular activities
  • Current affairs and a general awareness of commercial and current affairs, particularly in the property fields
  • Other experience - such as charity work, academic positions of responsibility etc
  • Reliability
  • Flexible and enthusiastic
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good knowledge of MS Office
